Network cables or data cables have changed the way in which we use computers and transmit information. Through them we connect and transfer data and information between computers, routers, switches and storage area networks. Without them, the modern world as we know it would look very different!

Types Of Network Cables

Network cables are the key infrastructure behind many successful businesses. Depending on your business needs and structure, the type of network cabling used will vary. With new technology and advancements being made regularly, it can be difficult to know what you need.

The dominant type of cabling seen in most offices and retail settings is twisted pair cabling. This cabling consists of four pairs of wires, with each pair insulated by an outer sheath. This sheath helps to prevent interference from other cables and devices.

The second most common network cable is fibre optic cabling. This cabling is preferred when high bandwidths are required such as in hospitals, airports and banks as it is capable of sending huge volumes of data quickly and accurately.

Coaxial cable is also a commonly used network cable and consists of copper wiring with metal shielding to limit interference. It can transmit data over long distances and at much higher speeds than twisted pair cabling.
