Wyoming’s interim chief information officer, Timothy “TR” Sheehan, announced Thursday he is leaving state government.
Wyoming’s interim chief information officer, Timothy “TR” Sheehan, announced Thursday he has resigned from the role, and Gov. Mark Gordon has appointed a replacement.
Sheehan was appointed interim CIO for the State of Wyoming in January 2023 for the second time — he previously served as interim CIO for nine months from May 2021 to January 2022 — after former Wyoming CIO Bill Vajda quietly resigned the same month. Vajda replaced Gordon Knopp, who’d been dismissed from the role in 2021 alongside state health director Mike Ceballos after residents’ data collected during the COVID-19 pandemic was leaked.
Gov. Gordon announced Wednesday that in light of Sheehan’s resignation, he has selected Chief Information Security Officer Aaron Roberts to serve as interim CIO. Roberts has worked for the state’s Enterprise Technology Services department since 2021, and his first day as interim CIO is Monday.
As Wyoming’s interim CIO, Sheehan led the state’s ETS department and was in charge of creating strategic IT initiatives that align with state culture and long-term goals. He also worked with state agency directors and partners to deliver programs and services that enhance business activities.
Prior to being interim CIO, Sheehan also served as information services administrator with the state and was also the state’s first cloud architect. He also served on the state’s Cyber Assistance Response Effort, or CARE team, and sat on multiple advisory boards.
“My time as Wyoming’s CIO has been nothing short of remarkable. Each day, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some of the most dedicated, talented, and passionate individuals in public service. Together, we’ve weathered storms, celebrated victories, and forged bonds that transcend the confines of our workplace,” Sheehan said in a post on LinkedIn.
Sheehan did not return requests for comment prior to publication.
