Pawan Gupta is a seasoned cybersecurity leader with over two decades of experience in the technology industry. Currently serving as the Senior Director of Global Security Services at Cognizant, Gupta has been instrumental in shaping the company’s cybersecurity services for over six years. With a total of 24 years in the industry, he brings a wealth of expertise and insight to his role.

As head of Cognizant’s cybersecurity services, Gupta oversees a comprehensive portfolio encompassing security services delivery, including identity access management, threat management, governance risk and compliance, and vulnerability management. Additionally, he plays a pivotal role in fostering strategic partnerships with key alliances such as IBM, collaborating to develop innovative solutions tailored to clients’ evolving needs.

Gupta’s journey into the realm of cybersecurity was serendipitous yet driven by a deep-seated passion for the field. Initially drawn to software development during the dotcom boom, he found himself captivated by the intricacies of cybersecurity, particularly cryptography.

 It wasn’t until a decade later, during his tenure at Verizon, that Gupta seized the opportunity to lead a security operations centre, marking his official entry into the cybersecurity domain.

What fuels Gupta’s enthusiasm for cybersecurity is its dynamic and ever-evolving nature. He likens the profession to that of a perpetual learner, where staying abreast of the latest technologies and industry trends is paramount. 

Throughout his 14-year journey in cybersecurity, he has witnessed seismic shifts in the landscape, from the prominence of network security to the current emphasis on identity-centric approaches and cloud technologies.

Gupta’s proudest achievements reflect his knack for innovation and leadership. At Verizon, he spearheaded the establishment of two security operations centres in India, significantly augmenting the company’s global cybersecurity capabilities. 

Moreover, his collaboration with IBM culminated in the launch of Cognizant’s Cyber Threat Defense Platform, a visionary initiative that anticipated future cybersecurity needs and garnered industry acclaim.
