American microprocessor producer Microchip Technology Incorporated suffered a cyberattack last weekend. The incident impacted its systems and disrupted the workflow of some manufacturing units.
On Saturday, August 17th, the IT team detected suspicious activities in their systems. The incident impacted some of the manufacturer`s servers and business operations. As a result, Microchip announced that
certain of the Company’s manufacturing facilities are operating at less than normal levels, and the Company’s ability to fulfill orders is currently impacted.

As part of the incident response measures, the IT team took the following steps:
- isolated the impacted systems
- shut down certain systems
- launched an investigation in collaboration with their external cybersecurity advisors
For now, the full scope, nature and impact of the Microchip cyberattack remain unknown.

Other big brands in microchips manufacturing, like Nvidia, Nexperia, AMD, ASML and TSMC, suffered cyber incidents before. Some of them were victims of ransomware or data theft.
For now, it is not clear if the Microchip cyberattack is a case of ransomware or not.
